Can't make it to this as I have a job on, rewiring a bunch of light fittings. Maybe one year I'll attend them all.

I thought I wasn't going to be able to make it too, was at rock bottom financially until just after 7PM tonight, but thankfully my G1 sold so I have a bit of cash to last 'til next payday. Its going to be hit and miss every month as unfortunately money for my own enjoyment and entertainment purposes is in very short supply :-( Just have to take each month as it comes, when its a choice between spending 15 quid on entertainment and feeding the family for a day there really isn't a choice to be made.

Unfortunately for me an issue at home has arisen that has prevented me from travelling to Burton. Bugger

Another good start to the year at Burton :-) Glad it went well. Really gutted not to be there but at least I've got the VT to look forward too.

So another start to the Awakenings year and a great night to boot, 3 very different and diverse forms of EM to delight our watching pleasure and good to see everyone again :-)
The Russians LOL started the year off with a great set, some very good free flowing guitar work from Dave, at times it was that slick that it sounded like there was a second guitarist playing along with them, and nick expertly adding the overall feel and background to the tracks with some nice little devices, always a pleasure to watch these guys in action.
The Tenth anniversary guy was up next and didn't fail to entertain, with a table full of musical devices, a solid set and good mix of everything thrown in the bucket, swirled around and tossed out to the audience.
PP were next and it was good to see they had brought the gear to do a live set of music, great compositions, great sound quality, and a fine well rehearsed performance.
Enjoyed all three acts in different ways and those that weren't there have a stormer of a VT to listen to:-)

I totally agree with Martyn, it was another great start to the Awakenings calendar and I very much enjoyed watching and listening to all three acts.
Cosmonauttransfer only got there late so I don't think they had time to a proper soundcheck. Even so, they played a nice varied set with some really fab guitar taking the music to a high. The guitar was a bit on the quiet side in the mix but even so the guys sounded great.
Next up was Jez and he played a very accomplished set. The music and effects complemented the superb visuals to great effect and constantly changed throughout. There were some big sounds coming out of those little boxes and the changes were smooth and flowing. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Pyramid Peak ended the evening and played a superb professional set. I totally enjoyed the music they played and the visuals as well. The sound mix was crystal clear and all the sounds were distinct. The music was top quality with no glitches & I admire them for bringing all those keyboards all that way. They played in sync to several videos which were great to watch. I particularly liked one of the encore tracks 'Gravity' I think it was called. They wanted to continue playing but it was already after 11.00pm when they finished their 2nd encore. I'd like to see this band again in future.
Even though the audience in the hall wasn't huge, all three acts were well received and got great applause. It was a really great night. I didn't buy any CDs on the night as I'd just bought an Awakenings season ticket and have a few bills to pay. I look forward to hearing the VT.

I had a fun night Cosmonauttransfer were great, shame they had problems on their journey and had no time to set up before playing, but you'd hardly notice I had fun playing my set, it was fun trying to keep the sequences and loops interesting, especially as I'm still getting the hang of the volcas. Managed to get a bit of ivcs3 in too, but it was buried in a load of other weird noise so not hugely noticable. I'm glad people enjoyed the visuals too I enjoyed Pyramid Peak, but nearly 2 hours was a bit too much for me, I would have enjoyed it more if the'd gone for quality over quantity!

was it really 2 hours, it didn't seem that long although I was getting a bit fidgety towards the end :-)

I was disappointed not to be able to get to Burton on Saturday night as I was looking forward to seeing everyone again after so long but it wasn't to be. I'm glad I'll get the chance to hear the first two sets (CT & Mod ESP) especially on the VT. Years ago I used to listen to Pyramid Peak quite a bit and have three CDs of theirs but I doubt I've played any of them for 10 years now. I'll have to dig them out and give them a spin but I would imagine they may be a little lightweight for me nowadays.

We enjoyed playing as always, but the sound could have been better had we arrived earlier, so sorry for that. Visuals tech and poor sense of direction/ journey planning during the day through us out. We stayed true to our vision musically though.
Jez's set was fantastic, really epic, with some new elements I've never heard in his music before, some quite industrial beats and whispery voices subtley punctuating the arpeggios in the middle section. And ants!!! I love ants. Esp ants in 70's cinematography! Highly visceral multi-media combination!
Pyramid Peak's set was very long, but they'd come a long way and I guess it means the VTs are going to have like, a double CDs worth of material from them, so very generous. Admittedly, by the second encore I was distracted thinking about how much coffee I'd need for the drive home to Brighton. Some of their music is more in the New Age field of EM for my tastes, but not all of it. I particularly liked the tracks from the new album 'Anatomy' and I bought a copy. 'Injection' was really awesome, my favourite track - with compelling in-yer-face arps and an evil bassline!
Many thanks to everyone that supported us, ESP, PP and Awakenings. It's a really special event, thanks for having us.
