cheers Martyn ;D being adaptable really helps, generally I try to play stuff that fits the event, so more noisy experimental stuff for Rammel, more EM stuff for Awakenings, probably something more melodic for Bungay, something more 'dancey' for SoundFoursome etc Although every set is still me, just different facets I guess it helps that I love playing live And you're single so you have the time to do it! If you want to carry on with all that you are doing in music then i'd stay single because no woman would put up with that! That's the reason I'm single mate.

I'd agree with that, music and relationships dont work unless the girl is very very independant herself. I had to make that choice 20 odd years ago, I chose the girl at that time and dont regret it. I have had my family and they are growing up and becoming fairly independant themselves, which is now allowing me a little bit of freedom outside of the family unit and I am starting to enjoy my music once again. Obviously I am not able to take the piss though ;D

Depending on your point of view, you could say I have had the best of both worlds, but in reality I gave up my dreams of playing music and making a living at it, too late for me now. Those who are single, as long as you are happy with it and doing exactly what you want in life, i'd say stick with it, and persue that goal

I only got into the music for the groupies... tbh it's been a bit of a let down so far.

Why is it too late, Martyn? You just played in a Cathedral. How many musicians ever get to do that? How many musicians ever get further than their bedroom?

It's not too late for me to continue enjoying what I am doing David, what I would say is it's too late for me, due to the amount of commitment both time wise and financial that is needed to "hit the big time" so to speak. Dont get me wrong, playing in a Cathedral is an accolade in itself and not many get that kind of chance That concert last week will be in my memories forever

I'm lucky enough to have a girlfriend who's very enthusiastic about my music.
I'd love to start doing live stuff in the future (when I have a bit more gear and can actually do it properly) but really don't have much of a way in sadly. I will continue to look.

I am not sure if you musician guys on this forum realise the amount of joy and pleasure your music brings to us none playing types. You all have a great gift for conveying your inspirations to others. It is a gift that should be nurtured, pursued and treasured. Being famous counts for nothing in terms of quality. If I had the choice of going to a TD gig of whom I am a big fan or Awakenings there is no contest as to which one I would go to. Although my interest in EM has never deminished Awakenings and this forum gave me another kick up the ar.se to follow what were new musicians for me. I had seen the names but never connected until I got on the forum and went to Awakenings. Thanks to each and every one of you. Your music is an inspiration and you are able to affect peoples lives in a positive way. A big thankyou to each and everyone of you.

Well said Paul! It's important to remember that fame and money aren't the point of music, and aren't the level of success you should judge yourself by. If you enjoy making music, and then someone else enjoys listening to it, then you've done something more worthwhile than 95% of the population of this craphole!
