It's nice to have a distinct sound, the tough part is taking that sound and using it in different ways to create music. Ian Boddy is so diverse in what he records he won't settle for knocking ou sequencer album after sequencer album. I know after recording 2 albums using Reason it was a breath of fresh air to start from scratch with a lot of recently purchased hardware synths. You record music for you and if other people like it then that's a bonus! I think working with different people helps keep things interesting, as shown by Ian Boddy, loads of collaborations, each different. hopefully your collab with Astrogator, Quadra, etc would have helped get some different aspects (I think)

They may not like it, but at least for a musician it gets you thinking. When i played at E-Live last year i presented a totally new set with not one track off either Reflections or From Earth To Mars. I much prefer hearing new material rather than what people already have on released Cd's.

I know just from the last session that i ended up playing more weird edgy sounds with a hint of piano which i wouldn't of done recording as Create. Quadra is even more of a challange because you have 4 musicians adding parts to the music, i think it's so much harder then for us all to be on the same wavelength so to speak at the same time.

The Quadra thing made me appreciate Astrogator even more, because fitting in with 3 other people is a lot harder than fitting in with one other person. Even that can be difficult at times. But as with all things in life, very little that is good comes easy.

I know after recording 2 albums using Reason it was a breath of fresh air to start from scratch with a lot of recently purchased hardware synths Well even switching from Reason to those h/w synths you kept the create 'sound' intact. Therefore you have a sound, a style, a something.

I've added the track I did as a tryout for the Quadra session to my website's music page and named Quadratic in honour of the session. Modulator ESP - QuadraticNice work Jez

Thanks John! ;D With the Create sound i'm rather fond of including layered string sounds alongside the sequences/melodies etc. I played Phil some of The First Light Of Spring when he came round and even though he said it was different he said he could still tell it was me!
