just got back to Cambridge after my first awakenings. No longer a virgin. Possibly not quite as memorable as the other first time but a cracker. Time for a whiskey and bed but cheers to all who played (and organized).

Just got in, managed to unload the gear to Bedford studio as well. Cracking night, really enjoyed playing and I thought it was possibly one of the best Awakenings I have been to as everyone was in fine playing mood. My sincere Thanks to Mick and Phil - it was amazing we got thru as it was completely improvised. Fantastic sets form the Omega Boys and John's Elixir "thingy" Also many Thanks for everyone's kind words of support etc, Cheers Brendan

Got back about 2am, really am buzzing off tonight, the bar was set extremely high, "Elixir" were a great way to start, by the time PDB had finished, I felt the crowd already had their money's worth, but if we could match either of the first two acts, it would be a bonus.
I really slid into that set tonight, even the notes we dropped were tolerable, our most relaxed & self satisfying set to date I reckon (With our second Awakenings gig being a close second (the one that became "Horsemen on the Horizon").
Many thanks to all who turned up, great to see a load of "new" faces, Spike, who joined us on stage tonight said that it was a completely new experience for him, to play a gig where people "sat down" to watch you play & not even have the normal distractions of a bar or a football match on in the next room, which basically means the band are merely loud background music. Thanks to the strong line up, I think both himself & his other half are hooked, which means, they will probably go to more of these. he's quickly got into this EM lark, but to say that I gave him a copy of the latest CD yesterday, we listened to Alice Cooper on the way down & The Omega Syndicate on the way back... Result!
If you got there, many thanks, If you didn't, you missed something pretty special.

Got home around 1.15am, via a decent kebab takeaway ;D Sat and had a small beer and chill out before bed. As usual an excellent evening; great to see so many new faces. Dropped a few bum notes But what the heck I'm only human and this stuff is very improvised in places! ;D Hampshire Jam next...........

Rubbish, poorly shot, shaky, without the band's permission footage of PDB here. to tide anyone over until the professionals get the job done properly

Occasionally I ask myself why I make the considerable effort to attend all the awakenings concerts, when I could just buy the VT.
Last night reminded me why I do it. To see three bands at the top of their game live is just remarkable.
Was it the best awakenings I have seen yet? Well I have seen some pretty remarkable ones so far, but this must be near the top, if not the top.
My thanks go to all who played and organised the event. It really is much appreciated.

Did someone video the EEE set, I thought I had, but the tape must have been a dodgy one as the recording has come out terrible... Unwatchable, the other two sets done on different tapes appear to be fine, although I've not checked them properly yet, if anyone has a copy of it, could I have one for the archive? Cheers.
Just putting a bit of our set on Youtube, I'll let you know when it's on there.

Excellent music and meet up last night and it was great meeting people again. Great guitar work from Michael, Rob and Steve.
In particular, PDB and Omega Syndicate were fantastic and really on form. Brendan was effortlessly changing highly complex sequences. Dave was in his full element, he was really enjoying himself at the gig.
Quote of the night: [Dave telling Brendan]
"We're both trying to play Tangerine Dream, except you're playing Rubycon and we're playing Exit"
I bought:
Modulator ESP t-shirt Xan Alexander - Quantum Waves Edge Effect - I am Standing at the Gateway to Darkness, Yet All I see is the Light Rogue Element - Storm Passage Pete Challoner - Indefinate Duration Pete Challoner - Ambient Archive
Special thanks to Jez, as I was able to stay at his place on Saturday night and as he took me to Burton from Nottingham. Without him, I doubt I would have been able to attend. Best part at Chez de Jez was his VCS3, a very powerful synth.
You never know if PDB may reform, but if it really was their last gig, what a way to end it. And even more impressive, was that they had no rehearsals. I heard Brendan(?) say to Michael "what keys are we going to play tonight?" Before hand Michael told Brendan "We should do one long set tonight, with no breaks" So clearly they only had a very brief time to practice, etc. A bit like early 70's TD.

Well, it was a throughly enjoyable evening, if somewhat mentally draining. And perhaps a little sad too. Both the EEE and PDB sets seemed to go down well, which is nice seeing as how both were very much off the cuff performances. I thought Brendan's sequencing was absolutely on fire, so much so that we completely lost track of time and overran the first segment, which only left about 10 mins for the second part. But we were having too much fun to worry about little things like that :-) I enjoyed playing with EEE also. Completely different and it sounded quite nice in parts form here I was sat. It seemed to blend together quite well. I'm just about to have a little listen to it now.
As for the Omega boys, well I have to agree with Dave that was most probably tthe best live performance I've seen from them. Very good stuff. Looking forward to their set at the HJ now.

In thinking back to last night, I would have to say the one thing that sticks out in my mind was the very very laid back atmosphere and this in itself was a key factor in making it one of the best awakenings nights I have been at. Each of the three acts played their sets with an almost "well What will be will be" attitude and it shone through in some fantastic music. EEE sounded atmospheric and totally in control of what was coming out and in parts the music lifted to that higher plane of perfection, where everything was gelled together and sounding beautiful. PDB was hashy and brendans final bash, not sure what Phil is going to do now, any ideas Phil? The music started and it was just bliss sequencing, as one tonal change continued after another, Hashy and phil blasting away in the background, improvising over or under the ever changing sequences. A brilliant way to end your live days Brendan and Hashtronaut. TOS, first time I have seen the omega boys and was very impressed, especially with Dave G's right hand, some nice guitar sounds from Rob and I like that D Beam thingy you was using. Xan, great ipod playing ;D i'll be in touch and there was also a cool looking guy doing something sat down, not sure what he was doing but he looked the part. Some lovely music that sounded like it had been rehearsed for months but Xan said not so well done for that, a polished performance and a pleasing end to another Burton extravaganza. Oh nice to finally meet Ben too

Great night. Home by 1:30.
Nice to be able to catch up with everyone again. Started late for us (hint - if you order any food at the "Cherry Tree Farm" make sure you get a receipt, it proves they've got your order along with your money).
EEE very atmospheric (Steve needs to turn his guitar up a bit more though) and enjoyable - the VT might make for some nice 'sleep on the train' sounds.
PDB good as ever. Nice to see everyone winging it!
TOS - Dave, you should never have worried about "how do I follow that?". A storming set that made a good piece even better, especially with added Rob.
Roll on the next one.
