Hashtronaut will no longer be supporting Pink Floydish at the Kirkby Suite on May 30th. He issued a statement a short while ago:
"The focus of the concert has shifted, its now a memorial concert for a friend of two members of Pink Floydish...and although I have no problem with that, it’s a fairly honourable thing to do I suppose, I do have an issue with being asked to provide a set that is all light and no shade, and being asked to 'play it safe' and 'not to be too weird'. I don’t think anyone has the right to ask this of a musician: they do what they do, how they do it. It's a bit off to ask an artist to tailor their set to suit an event.
Because of this, I find that the heart has fallen out of the whole event for me, it no longer holds any appeal. I cant and wont stand on a stage and play music to order, the essence of a live Hashtronaut set is that I don't even know where its going. There is also no such thing as Hashtronaut-Lite. The general vibe seems to be "Don’t freak out the family in mourning"... I wouldn’t want to - they have enough to cope with, but I do think the organisers have lost sight of the fact that there will be members of the public there that will just want a night out watching a couple of bands play, and are not concerned with the why's and wherefores of the evening.
It’s a pity - it is a well mapped out piece, plenty of different things going on to keep it chugging along, and plenty of mood changes and the like. I think it would have been very well received.
I do wish Pink Floydish every success for the gig, but it no longer holds any resonance for me, and I will not be taking part in the event".
The upside of this regrettable turn of events is that the set will be recorded 'Live in the studio' sometime before May 30th, and will see a release at some point in the near future.
